It’ll be five years this June! The time has flown by.

What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
When I started reading blogs and Live Journal, blogging was the furthest thing from my mind. I just loved being inspired by people who wanted the alternative, and at that time, people would make their own clothes and tailor things they bought to better suit their style.

There weren’t the options there are now for plus size people, and I loved reading about how bloggers created their various looks. Eventually I gained more and more confidence, not just through others’ style, but also through their body politics, and thought I’d give it a go –  I haven’t looked back.

Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
Blogging is purely a hobby for me, and that’s how I keep it fun. It’s also important to me not to put too much pressure on myself and blog when I want with the content I want. Blogging is one of my creative outlets, and keeping it light is the only way I’ll be able to still enjoy it.

What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
By look in the mirror everyday and loving everything I see, not just parts of it. It’s not easy, and we all have days where we struggle with what’s looking back at us, but self-affirmations are incredibly important for self-love and respect.

What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size?
Health care and being patronized on health is one of the major struggles. False concern in order to judge is something me and almost every plus size person I’ve spoken to encounters, and it’s frustrating.

It doesn’t and shouldn’t matter what kind of lifestyle someone adopts; being treated like a human being should be a basic right for everyone. I find it hard to comprehend how others do not get that.

What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
Choosing to unapologetically exist in this Euro-centric world.

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
The thing I value more than anything since starting my blog is the number of awesome people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made through my blog. Growing up was hard as I never had a plus size group of friends, so finding wonderful humans like Marie, Ariel, Ragini, Ushshi, Charlotte, Hanna, and Sian through blogging and sharing my experiences with them has been the best blessing.

Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
There are so many brands that spring to mind, but a few I find consistently good: Collectif, Hell Bunny, ASOS, Very, Next, Lovedrobe, Navabi, Elvi, Eloquii, Alice & You….and I also love vintage shopping.

Describe your personal style.
For myself I would definitely say my aesthetic is vintage-inspired. I love putting on a vintage or vintage-style dress and putting a modern twist on it. I live in dresses but want to start pushing myself out of my comfort zone; starting with a great pair of jeans!

Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I’m inspired by bloggers and activists. Those who not only blog/ talk about fashion, but also about politics: Marie from Migg Mag, Ragini from Curious Fancy, Ushshi from Dress Carcass, Virgie Tovar, and Ariel and KC from Bad Fat Broads. If you haven’t already, go check them out now!

What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
Of course there have been improvements, but I think we’re now past the point of applauding token gestures. There is still an embarrassing lack of representation amongst minorities, those with disabilities, non-feminine, and non-conformists.

Brands now know there is a high demand and need for plus size clothes, yet few tend to make it their mission to reassure consumers that they are included in the movement. We need more sizes, more choice, more color, more representation, more everything.

What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
One that bothers me a lot is that plus size people don’t want to wear color. That simply isn’t true. It’s particularly noticeable during the spring/ summer months and the lack of choices both in store and online.

Are you working on anything or have anything to share?
Recently took part in The Body Project  by Bustle. I was interviewed by the amazing Marie and I absolutely loved how the article came out.

Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
If anyone wants to follow me on social media, I’m on Twitter: @picpixie and Instagram: @pic_pixie

Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
I identify with the word fat over curvy, but I think the message is still the same:  to never let anyone steal your shine. To love yourself inside and out and to encourage others to do the same.
