Meet Nicole of Curves on a Budget!!!
Blog: Curves on a Budget
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for a little over one year.
What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I actually used to take outfit photos with my phone all the time, but I also go to know some local bloggers here, and they told me it’s important to find your niche which led me to start blogging about budget friendly plus size fashion.
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
I do not blog full time; however, that’s a serious goal that I have. It first started as something fun to do, and it has literally grown into a part time job! I do all of the work on the weekends because I have a full time job so it’s like I never have a day off, but blogging never feels like work.
What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
Waist for sure! No matter if I gain or lose weight, my waist never goes away. I LOVE wearing high-waist anything because it just draws even more attention to it.
What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size?
I don’t really face any physical challenges; they’re more mental/emotional. Like getting myself prepared for a public pool or beach. I still get body anxiety before I reveal myself in a swimsuit. Then once the cover is off, I’m chill. It’s just those moments beforehand that I’m working on.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
The community. I’ve met a lot of empowering women, and I feel like we have this connection that you just can’t find anywhere else.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
Oh dear that’s a tough one. There are so many! My fave would have to be the messages I receive from my readers. They’ve made me laugh, made me cry(happy tears!), and just the feeling of making a difference no matter how big or small…there’s nothing like it. I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s so true.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
Forever 21, Fashion to Figure, Monif C, Charlotte Russe, City Chic, Torrid, Wet Seal, Simply Be, Shop Love Yourz, Society +, and DEB
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is a monochromatic mix of sleek, casual, professional, and sexy. I like monochromes because they’re simple and versatile. I work a full time professional job so the majority of my pieces have to take me from the office to happy hour and everything in between.
Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I love Ashleigh of The Daileigh! She’s a straight size blogger and her outfits are so simple, but look so elevated. She also mixes patterns really well, which is where I struggle.
Audrey of Lulu Linden is definitely on my radar, and she is a blogger to look out for. Her style is where is always on point, and again, it’s very functional. She’s like the girl next door meets Vogue.
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
It’s progressing slowly, but surely. I think the latest season of Project Runway was huge because the world saw an ACTUAL plus size designer creating beautiful clothes for plus size women win. That’s huge!
I think it spoke volumes and really let other designers and brands know that it’s worth it to incorporate plus size options in their lines. Even Victoria Secret got their first plus size fit model. Before last year I wouldn’t put VS and plus size in the same sentence. Brands are catching on. It’s like that line from Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come.” We have the funds; now give us something worth buying!
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
That big girls shouldn’t wear shorts. That’s a personal myth that I used to believe until I busted it last year when I bought my first pair ever! I still don’t know what took me so long to wear them, but I know I’m never going back!
Are you working on anything or have anything to share? Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
I’m going into my second year of blogging so I want to try some new ideas out and new styles. I actually started a new series(kind of) called Curves on a Splurge where a couple times a month I’ll literally splurge on a piece(s) of clothing because I deserve it and everyone deserves a good splurge every once and while.
So far the feedback has been very positive. I did a series last year called Fashion Fears Conquered where stepped outside of my comfort zone and tried a pattern or style for the first time. I want to bring that back. My next goal is to incorporate beauty, stay tuned!
Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
It’s the perfect triple threat. They’re good on their own, but if a woman has all three, she’s unstoppable.
